The Premier 120B v2 is the entry bookshelf speaker, below the 220B v2, in the second generation of the Premier series from Paradigm, a Canadian company that designs and engineers the range at its home headquarters. The v2 line counts, in Paradigm's words, as a full redesign and not a simple refresh, bringing driver technology down from the higher Founder series. The list price is USD 399.99 per speaker, and in Japan the pair sells for JPY 165,000 from 20 September 2026.
Key specs that matter
Paradigm builds the 120B v2 as a ported two-way with one tweeter and one woofer. A 1 inch AL-MAC dome made of aluminium, magnesium and ceramic handles the top octaves, damped with ferro-fluid and set in an Oblate Spheroid Waveguide behind a Perforated Phase-Aligning lens. Below it sits a 5.5 inch ultra-high-excursion AL-MAG cone with a 1 inch multi-layer voice coil rated for high temperature. A second-order electro-acoustic crossover joins them at 1.2 kHz. Paradigm rates on-axis response at 62 Hz to 23 kHz within 3 dB, with DIN low frequency extension reaching 39 Hz. Sensitivity is 90 dB in room and 87 dB anechoic, the nominal load is 8 ohm, with 15 to 130 W named as the usable amplifier range. The cabinet measures 30.5 cm high, 17.8 cm wide and 30.7 cm deep, and each unit weighs 7.4 kg.
Engineering and use context
The woofer uses Gen3 Active Ridge Technology in its surround and a vertical mounting system for the driver. According to Paradigm, the PPA lens works as an acoustic filter that blocks out-of-phase frequencies so all reproduced frequencies reach the listener at the same time, while the waveguide directs energy toward the listening area and cuts reflections from walls and ceiling. The enclosure is braced MDF. Finishes are Piano Black lacquer, Walnut and Black Walnut veneers, plus Satin White, which within the range is offered only on this model and the 520LCR v2 centre. It suits a desk, a shelf or stands in a space of about 20 m2.
Pairing
The wide amplifier window and the easy nominal load suit a small stereo amplifier as readily as a surround receiver. For surround use the series offers the 620C v2 and 520LCR v2 centres with coaxial Dual-Sync motors, and J-18C v2 and J-29 v2 stands are part of the range. In North America the 620C v2 centre is priced at USD 1,299.99 and the 520LCR v2 at USD 899.99, while in Japan they cost JPY 275,000 and JPY 198,000 each.
Alternatives
The Premier 220B v2 is the bigger stand-mount in this Premier generation, at USD 549.99 per speaker.
