The Platinum B6-WH is the white version of Tannoy's Platinum B6, a compact two-way bookshelf loudspeaker sold as a pair and designed and engineered in the UK. Tannoy positions the B6 as a modern model for small to medium rooms, and at no more than 36 cm tall it fits on a shelf, a sideboard or a dedicated stand. In the UK the B6 was listed at GBP 599 per pair, and Tannoy covers it with a three-year warranty programme.

A 1 inch silk dome tweeter sits above a 6.5 inch woofer with a paper and composite cone, and the two drivers are divided at 2.5 kHz. Rated response runs from 50 Hz to 20 kHz. The speaker presents a nominal 8 ohm load and produces 86 dB from 1 W at 1 m. Tannoy suggests amplifiers of 20 to 80 W, and the drivers accept 40 W on a continuous basis with peaks up to 160 W. Engineering and use context

Tannoy makes the enclosure from 19 mm MDF with internal plywood supports, which stiffen the panels and reduce cabinet vibration during playback. A rear-ported reflex design, with the port close to the bottom of the back panel, extends the bass output of the small box. The magnetic grille attaches without any visible screws on the front baffle, so the white front stays clean when the cover is taken off. Large binding posts accept banana plugs and Y-lugs and can take thick speaker cable, and the single pair of terminals means the B6 is wired with one cable per side. Both drivers use neodymium magnets. The white paint suits interiors where a dark wood box would stand out, and the same speaker is also offered in brown, black and dark walnut, all sharing the same electrical data. Tannoy also lists an optional stand for the B6, for owners who prefer free-standing placement to a shelf.

Pairing

Moderate sensitivity and a simple nominal load suit compact integrated amplifiers, network receivers and mini systems within the suggested power band. An amplifier of around 50 W per channel sits in the middle of that range and leaves some reserve without approaching the peak rating. Owners combining the B6 with a much larger power amplifier should watch the volume, since the drivers are the limiting factor rather than the amplifier.
