MartinLogan's Motion B10 is the bookshelf model among the five loudspeakers of the Motion series, a two-way design with a Folded Motion tweeter. It belongs to the reworked Motion and Motion XT generation of nine models, developed from the ground up, first shown in Bristol at the February 2023 Hi-Fi Show and put on sale late that month. Next to the B10 the Motion line holds the F20 and F10 towers, the C10 centre and the MP10 multi-purpose model. MartinLogan lists the B10 at USD 649.99 each.

Key specs that matter

MartinLogan equips it with a Gen2 Obsidian Folded Motion unit measuring 2.6 x 3.6 cm with a diaphragm area of 59.4 cm2, and its dispersion is given as 90 degrees horizontal by 90 degrees vertical. Below it sits a 14 cm woofer with a woven fiberglass cone - the material used across the Motion models, while Motion XT uses Kevlar. The crossover point is 2,370 Hz. Frequency response is 56 Hz to 25 kHz within plus or minus 3 dB, sensitivity is 92 dB and nominal impedance is 5 ohm. The cabinet is rear ported and measures 31.8 cm high, 17.8 cm wide and 24.8 cm deep, and one speaker weighs 6.6 kg. Three finishes are offered - Gloss Black, Walnut and Satin White.

Engineering and use context

A Folded Motion tweeter uses a thin film folded into pleats, which packs a larger radiating surface into a small frame. For the Gen2 Obsidian version, which replaces the earlier generation with an upgraded motor, MartinLogan fitted larger magnet structures to raise output and lower distortion. The tweeter sits in a Folded Motion waveguide. The lightweight woofer uses a cast polymer basket and a unibody cone. MartinLogan measures sensitivity at 2.83 volts and 1 m and rates the nominal load as compatible with amplifiers specified for 4, 6 or 8 ohm. The crossovers across the new Motion range follow a McCracken-Vojtko design. Speaker cable connects through custom 5-way binding posts of MartinLogan's own design. The optional STAND25 stand, sold separately, bolts directly into the bottom of the cabinet.

MartinLogan recommends amplifiers delivering 20 to 200 watts. For a home cinema layout the brand builds the matching C10 centre, the MP10 multi-purpose speaker and the F10 and F20 towers in the same series and finishes.
