The Model 2E is a two-way passive bass-reflex monitor loudspeaker from dB Module, a small company in Dordrecht in the Netherlands run by Hans de Bakker. Its cabinet is cast from concrete, and the maker sums up its aim as What goes in shall come out. The Model 2E was first shown at the Dutch Audio Event in Veldhoven on 4 and 5 October 2025. It is a development of the larger Model 1, but unlike that model it has no interchangeable parts, and dB Module describes it as a monitor-sized design. The price is EUR 1,995 per unit without stands or colour options.
Key specs that matter
The woofer is a 130 mm unit with an aluminium cone and an effective diameter of about 100 mm, made in Germany. The tweeter is a titanium dome with a protective grille from the same German supplier, and it is fixed in the baffle. The reflex port opens on the underside of the cabinet. Each speaker weighs about 22 kg. The crossover is a passive network designed in-house, and a switch on the rear panel adjusts the tweeter level. Sensitivity, impedance and frequency response have not been published by the maker.
Engineering and use context
The enclosure is fibre-reinforced cast concrete with the front baffle formed as part of the casting. The rear panel is a separate concrete plate sealed airtight against the body and held by 3D-printed corner brackets. Threaded inserts for the drivers, spikes and terminals are cast directly into the concrete, so every fixing point sits in the dense material rather than in a softer insert. The front baffle is angled, which makes the speakers left and right handed, and according to the maker the angle reduces standing waves inside the cabinet and removes the need to turn the speakers towards the listener. Because the port fires downward, placement near a wall is possible. The surface is protected with an oil finish, and any RAL colour is available for EUR 218 per pair. Heavy crossover coils sit on a 3D-printed holder attached to the 3D-printed reflex port. Three mounting options are offered. Feet screw into cast-in bushings to leave space under the port, a suspension frame with thin steel cables, leather bands and automatic cable clamps allows the tweeter height to be adjusted, and an open-base stand gives a fixed height. The tube-frame stand costs EUR 421 per pair and the metal-strip stand EUR 579 per pair.
Pairing
The Model 2E has been demonstrated with amplifiers as different as the Hypex Nilai 500, rated at 2 x 250 W into 8 ohm, and the Tektron TK-TWO 211-i valve amplifier with 2 x 18 W. Both worked with the speaker, although no load figures are published.
Alternatives
The dB Module Model 1 is the larger modular concrete design with six interchangeable tweeter modules and an optional port module.
