Scansonic HD builds the L-7 Stand-Mount as a compact two-way loudspeaker for its L range, a Danish label run by DANTAX Radio A/S of Pandrup. Scansonic presents the L Series as its budget friendly line with Scandinavian styling, and the company says its designs draw on technology and manufacturing know-how inherited from Raidho, a high-end loudspeaker brand whose models reach EUR 200,000 and more. The L-7 was introduced together with the L14 floorstander, the L On-Wall and the M On-Wall, at a launch price of EUR 690 per pair, and the Danish price is DKK 4,999.

Key specs that matter

Scansonic quotes a frequency response of 45 Hz to 20 kHz, sensitivity is 89 dB and the nominal impedance is 8 ohms, with a stated minimum of 4 ohms. The drivers are a 1 inch silk dome tweeter using neodymium and a 6.5 inch woofer built with a paper sandwich cone, and they are divided by a second order crossover at 2.2 kHz. The cabinet measures 210 mm wide, 360 mm high and 295 mm deep.

Engineering and use context

The enclosure is bass-reflex loaded. Scansonic states that the paper cone material of the woofer was chosen to reach a balance of stiffness and damping suited to its size. Heavy internal bracing and walls of increased thickness are used to keep cabinet resonances under control. Buyers can choose between Black, White and Walnut finishes. Within the L family, the L14 uses two of the same paper sandwich woofers with the same silk dome tweeter in a floor-standing cabinet priced at EUR 1,690 per pair, while the L On-Wall at EUR 450 per pair combines a soft dome tweeter with a 4.5 inch Kevlar driver in a 10 cm deep enclosure with integrated wall mounts. For home cinema the brand offers the L10 centre speaker, which it describes as designed to match the L7 and the L20, using a 25 mm soft dome tweeter with two 5.25 inch drivers and a fabric front grille that attaches with magnets. Scansonic ties its development work to more than 15 years of designing Raidho speakers, and says Raidho and Scansonic models are produced by skilled craftsmen in its factory in Denmark.

Scansonic recommends using amplifiers that deliver between 30 W and 150 W to drive the L-7.
