Drawn up by Jes Kerr, the two-way stand-mount K400 from Kerr Acoustic follows the same approach as the earlier K300. It is the most compact and least expensive model the British maker has produced so far, and the first Kerr Acoustic speaker made for wall or ceiling mounting. In the range it sits below the K300 stand-mount, priced from about USD 8,000 per pair, and the K100 mk. 2, at around USD 40,000. Pre-orders opened on 8 May 2026, with UK prices including VAT of GBP 4,695 per pair in real wood veneer, GBP 4,925 in satin lacquer, GBP 5,125 in high gloss lacquer and GBP 5,345 in high gloss veneer.

Key specs that matter

A 150 mm Scanspeak mid-bass unit with a wood-fibre cone and an extended linear suspension system works alongside a 45 mm true ribbon tweeter whose diaphragm has a mass of just 0.02 g. The two meet at 1.95 kHz with second-order slopes of 12 dB per octave. Frequency response is 39 Hz to 45 kHz, sensitivity is 88 dB measured at 2.83 V and 1 m, and nominal impedance is 6 ohm. Each speaker measures 341 mm high, 164 mm wide and 310 mm deep and weighs 7.5 kg.

Engineering and use context

The enclosure uses Baltic birch plywood in three thicknesses - 24 mm for the front baffle, 18 mm for the sides, top and bottom, and 12 mm for the internal bracing - and the mid-bass driver is loaded by a transmission line. The crossover has six elements and is assembled from ClarityCap film capacitors, hand-wound copper air-core inductors and carbon film resistors. On the rear panel a single pair of 4 mm copper five-way binding posts takes the speaker cable. Four professional-grade M8 threaded inserts on the back are intended for wall or ceiling brackets, including in multichannel and Atmos installations, and the brand names space-restricted listeners and professional multichannel users as the intended buyers. Magnetic grilles come as standard. Finishes cover oak and walnut wood veneers as well as satin or high-gloss lacquer in any RAL colour.

Pairing

Kerr Acoustic sells dedicated stands for the K400 separately at GBP 595 per pair, as an alternative to the M8 wall and ceiling fixing. With one pair of terminals on each cabinet, each K400 takes one cable run from the amplifier, and the 6 ohm nominal load and 88 dB sensitivity are the figures to compare with the amplifier's rated output.
