The Equinox Evara is a compact two-way bookshelf loudspeaker from Krix, an Australian manufacturer that has been making loudspeakers in Australia since 1974. It belongs to the Evara range, which Krix describes as a design evolution of existing hi-fi models - the internal engineering is unchanged and only the exterior has been updated. This model is based on the Equinox Mk5. The Evara range became available in Australia on 7 November 2025, with international distribution following shortly after, and the Equinox Evara is priced at AUD 1,345 per pair.
Key specs that matter
The low-frequency unit is a nominal 130 mm driver with a doped curvilinear paper cone in a cast aluminium basket. Its 30 mm voice coil is wound on a high-temperature Kapton former inside a vented magnet and carries a copper shorting ring. High frequencies are handled by a 26 mm dual concentric diaphragm fitted with a waveguide centre plug for controlled directivity. Krix quotes an in-room response of 45 Hz to 40 kHz and a sensitivity of 88 dB for 2.83 V at 1 m. Each speaker is 295 mm high, 175 mm wide and 235 mm deep and weighs 6 kg, or 12 kg per pair.
Engineering and use context
Internal bracing stiffens the enclosure, which is tuned as a bass reflex with its port on the rear. At under 30 cm tall, the Equinox Evara is intended for shelves and desks and for placement close to walls, and Krix also allows it to be used on stands. Five finishes are offered - Studio White, Studio Black, Studio Navy, Studio Green and Studio Charcoal - each with a discreet grille held on by magnets. The Evara line is handcrafted in Australia and covers bookshelf, floorstanding, centre, surround and subwoofer models in the same colour set, and Krix presents it as a modular system that scales from a simple stereo setup to a complete home entertainment installation. The subwoofer options in the range are the compact Seismix 1 Evara for smaller rooms and the more powerful Seismix 3D Evara for larger spaces.
Pairing
Krix specifies a recommended amplifier power of 20 to 120 W RMS. The impedance is nominally 6 ohm, with a minimum of 3.6 ohm. Speaker cables connect through gold-plated binding posts. Beyond two-channel hi-fi, the maker states that the Equinox Evara can be placed on stands and used as a side or rear surround in a Krix home theatre, next to the Graphix Evara centre and Dynamix Evara surround models.
Alternatives
The Krix Acoustix Evara is a larger bookshelf model in the same range, using two woofers of the same size in a D'Appolito layout with front vents, rated at 89 dB and weighing 10 kg.
