The Ella MK2 Purifi Monitor is a compact passive two-way monitor built by WLM (Wiener Lautsprecher Manufaktur), an Austrian workshop that operates from Vienna and Innsbruck and marked 25 years of operation in 2026. Owner Andreas Steiner runs the firm, while Martin Schützenauer leads development and production. The Ella family is the entry point to the WLM catalogue, and this version was presented at HIGH END Vienna 2026 together with the Rudi MK2 and the WLM 300 B. The price is EUR 9,800 per pair.
Key specs that matter
Purifi supplies the 6.5-inch mid/bass unit, which works with a 5 cm cone tweeter, and both drivers use paper diaphragms. WLM gives a frequency range of 45 Hz to 20 kHz at the -3 dB points. The box stands 41 cm high, is 20 cm wide and 34 cm deep, and weighs 8 kg. Buyers choose between ash, walnut and cherry wood.
Engineering and use context
According to WLM, the Purifi unit gives this model more depth, higher load capacity and tighter control than the regular Ella MK2, and the driver maker designed it to keep distortion low while holding control under hard drive. Instead of being glued together from flat panels, the enclosure is milled out of solid wood and shaped to avoid any parallel interior surfaces, which reduces standing waves inside the box. The passive crossover follows a purist layout with a small parts count, built around Mundorf silver, gold and oil capacitors, and the internal wiring comes from Cardas. The binding posts are themselves machined from solid stock. By comparison, the floorstanding Ella MK II in the WLM range uses a veneered MDF cabinet with 2 cm walls, a D'Appolito array of two 5-inch cones and a 7 cm tweeter, so the Purifi Monitor moves the name to a single larger woofer and a solid-wood body. A related Ella MK2 Concrete with a 3D-printed concrete shell and custom outer shapes was announced at the same time, although its data and price were still unpublished.
Pairing
WLM suggests its own Josef S amplifier as the partner for this monitor. WLM lists no impedance or sensitivity value, so a solid-state integrated with a comfortable current reserve is the safer general choice for a 6.5-inch two-way of this type. Placement on rigid stands brings the tweeter near ear height for a seated listener, and the cabinet depth needs a top plate of similar size.
Alternatives
The WLM Stella is a smaller passive mini monitor from the same maker, pairing a coated 5-inch paper woofer with a 5 cm cone tweeter.
