The Coda W is an active stereo bookshelf pair from KEF, introduced in October 2025 at USD 999.99 per pair during the company's 60th anniversary year. The name revives the Coda, a KEF model from the 1970s, and the new version packages a wireless system with a built-in phono stage for owners who want a turntable, a television and a phone connected to one compact pair.
Key specs that matter
Both cabinets hold a 12th-generation Uni-Q unit, which mounts a 25 mm aluminium dome tweeter in the middle of a 130 mm (5.25 inch) magnesium and aluminium alloy cone for bass and midrange. Every cabinet carries two Class D amplifiers, 30 W for the tweeter and 70 W for the cone, which gives 200 W for the system. KEF quotes the response as 41 Hz to 20 kHz within ±3 dB and 38 Hz to 20 kHz at -6 dB, with maximum output of 102 dB at 1 m. The primary speaker has HDMI ARC, optical, USB-C, an RCA line input, a moving magnet phono stage on RCA sockets, Bluetooth and a subwoofer output. Each speaker measures 285 x 168 x 268 mm and weighs 11.3 kg. Operating consumption is 200 W and standby is below 0.5 W.
Engineering and use context
The Uni-Q arrangement puts the tweeter in the acoustic centre of the cone, so both drivers radiate from a single point and dispersion stays even over a broad listening area instead of shifting between the two drivers. Processing is handled by KEF's Music Integrity Engine, the DSP platform the company also uses in its larger wireless models. Bluetooth runs to version 5.4 with aptX Adaptive and aptX Lossless. The secondary speaker links to the primary by a wired USB-C connection, with a 3 m cable in the box and an 8 m C-Link cable offered as an option at USD 59.99. The subwoofer output is also compatible with the KEF KW1 wireless adapter, so a sub can be placed away from the speakers without a long cable. Five finishes are listed - Vintage Burgundy, Nickel Grey, Moss Green, Midnight Blue and Dark Titanium - and a dedicated floor stand is sold for USD 399.99.
Pairing
A moving magnet turntable connects directly to the phono sockets, while a television uses HDMI ARC, and USB-C takes a laptop or desktop computer. A CD player or streamer fits the line input. A KEF subwoofer on the sub output extends the bass below the limit of the compact cones.
Alternatives
The KEF LS LUXE is a larger active bookshelf pair with a 165 mm Uni-Q driver, network streaming and HDMI eARC at USD 3,999.99 per pair.
