The Caruso R 10 is a passive two-way bookshelf monitor from T+A elektroakustik of Herford, Germany, introduced in March 2021 together with the Caruso S 10 floor-standing speaker and the Caruso R stereo receiver. T+A presented both speakers as companions for the Caruso R. The launch price was EUR 1,150. The case is black and the front cover is aluminium in silver.
Key specs that matter
A 152 mm bass/mid-range driver works with a 25 mm woven dome tweeter, and the crossover sits at 2100 Hz. Bass loading uses a reflex port. The rated frequency range is 40 Hz to 30,000 Hz, and sensitivity is 85 dB. Nominal impedance is 4 ohm. Power ratings are 80 W nominal and 120 W music power. The cabinet measures 31 x 17 x 30 cm (height x width x depth) including the terminal, and each speaker weighs 7 kg.
Engineering and use context
The bass/mid-range unit was newly developed for this model. T+A describes it as ultra-linear in response and low in distortion, while still able to make very large excursions. Three changes make this possible - a new magnet system with an optimised magnetic field geometry, special vibrating components, and a modified cone construction. Large excursion lets the cone move more air in the low range than its size would suggest, which matters in such a small cabinet. The woven dome tweeter was chosen so that its frequency range and phase response match the transition region around the crossover point, and the tweeter works together with the acoustic design of the front baffle to control radiation in the upper range. The rated bass extension comes from the combination of this long-throw driver and the bass-reflex tuning. For stand or shelf use, T+A offers the optional Speaker Hex (Carbon) and Speaker Quad (Carbon) accessories.
Pairing
The intended partner is the Caruso R, the stereo receiver from the same launch, which matches the black and silver finish. With its low impedance and modest sensitivity, any other amplifier should be rated for low-impedance operation and deliver sufficient power, staying within the nominal rating for continuous use. The Caruso S 10 is the floor-standing option for owners who want more cabinet volume in the same design.
