The Aurora S7 Special Edition is a three-way speaker for stands from Richter Audio of Sydney, the Australian company that has designed and engineered speakers in Australia since 1986. The Series 7 Special Edition is its 40th-anniversary range, and the Aurora is its only stand-mount model, alongside the Wizard, Dragon and Excalibur floorstanders. The floorstanders went on sale from mid-February 2026, and the Aurora followed in the second quarter of 2026 at AUD 3,999 and NZD 4,599 per pair.

Key specs that matter

At the top sits the latest 25 mm SE Teardrop soft dome with a neodymium magnet, a dedicated 70 mm soft-dome unit covers the midrange, and the bass driver is a 165 mm high-power, high-excursion composite paper cone in a cast-alloy basket. Frequency response is 35 Hz to 30 kHz at -6 dB, sensitivity is 88 dB at 2.83 V RMS and 1 m on axis, and impedance is 6 ohm nominal with a 5 ohm minimum. Richter recommends 80 to 150 W RMS from a high-current amplifier rated for 4 ohm loads. The speaker measures 390 mm high, 221 mm wide and 290 mm deep with grille and stabilisers, and it weighs 9.8 kg. The warranty runs for five years.

Engineering and use context

Using a separate midrange dome lets the tweeter and the bass driver each cover a narrower range than in a two-way design of this size, since the midrange dome takes over the band in between. The crossover is a newly developed three-way network with a dedicated circuit for each driver, built with polypropylene capacitors and precision air-cored and ferrite-cored inductors. The vented cabinet breathes through a port on its back, and its softer, more contemporary form is intended to reduce cabinet resonance. A cast-alloy basket holds the bass driver more rigidly than pressed steel, so the frame does not flex under high excursion. The Special Edition terminals accept bare wire, pins, spades and banana plugs. The finish combines natural walnut veneer with a matte anthracite grey baffle and a soft grey grille, and stabilisers are fitted to the base.

Pairing

The minimum impedance and the recommendation for a high-current amplifier rated for low loads favour solid-state amplification within Richter's recommended output, for a room of about 20 m2. Because the port faces backwards, the cabinet should not be pushed against a wall.
