Franco Serblin makes the Accordo, a small two-way speaker meant for its own stands, in its workshop in Vicenza, Italy, founded by the designer of the same name. Its cabinet follows a specular layout, with left and right speakers built as mirror images, and it is handcrafted by artisan cabinet makers. Later models in the family include the Accordo Goldberg, Accordo Essence and Accordo Unica.

Key specs that matter

Ragnar Lian is credited with the 29 mm silk dome tweeter, and the mid-woofer is a custom 150 mm sliced paper cone with a symmetrical drive motor and controlled cone break-up. Response is quoted as 40 Hz to 33 kHz measured in room, with 87 dB sensitivity at 1 W and 1 m and a nominal impedance of 4 ohm, and a 20 W per channel minimum for the driving amplifier. Each speaker stands 36 cm high, 19 cm wide and 36 cm deep. A pair weighs 32 kg without packing, or 40 kg together with the stands.

Engineering and use context

Solid wood forms a very stiff enclosure whose sides curve into an arch, decoupled by aluminium-magnesium parts intended to control resonance, and it works as a rear-ported bass reflex box. An unusual detail is the position of the crossover. Instead of sitting inside the cabinet next to the drivers, the minimalist low-order phase-coherent network is built into the dedicated 74 cm stand, which keeps its components away from the magnetic fields and vibration of the transducers. That makes the stand an integral element of the speaker. Components for the filter are individually selected, and the low filter order limits how many parts sit between amplifier and drivers. The specular pairing means the tweeter offset on each baffle mirrors its partner, so left and right speakers are not interchangeable. Two finishes are listed - solid walnut and grey multilayered hardwood - both with chrome aluminium hardware.

Pairing

A low nominal load paired with average sensitivity points toward a transistor amplifier that can supply plenty of current, although the low minimum power rating means a well built integrated amplifier of moderate rating can serve a room of about 20 m2. Because the network sits in the stand, the speaker cables connect there, and the pair should always be used with its matching stands.
