PULA, which also trades as Pula Audio, builds the Unicrom as a wired earphone with one dynamic driver per side. It is aimed at listeners moving up from entry-level earphones and sells for USD 79.99. Colour options are black, blue, green and yellow, and a co-branded edition in an exclusive blue finish was released for the Indian market. The stock package holds six pairs of silicone ear tips, a leatherette carry case with a magnetic closure and the stock cable.
Key specs that matter
Inside each shell sits one 10 mm dynamic driver with a beryllium-plated diaphragm. Published data gives a range of 20 Hz to 20 kHz, sensitivity of 101 dB plus or minus 3 dB SPL per mW, an impedance of 32 ohm and distortion below 0.5 percent. The detachable cable uses standard 0.78 mm two-pin connectors, is made of silver-plated copper and measures 1.25 m with a tolerance of 30 mm. Each earpiece weighs 6.6 g.
Engineering and use context
Beryllium plating is used on the diaphragm because it makes the membrane very stiff while keeping its mass low, and PULA states that the tuning goal was a balanced response across bass, midrange and treble. The shells are moulded from resin in an ergonomic shape, and the faceplates are cut from solid stabilised maple, which gives every pair its own grain pattern and surface texture. Instead of a fixed plug, the cable ends in a modular termination. The owner swaps between a 3.5 mm single-ended plug and a 4.4 mm balanced plug, both supplied, without buying a second cable. Since the two-pin sockets follow the common format, any aftermarket lead with that connector will fit. PULA's current range also includes hybrid models with balanced armature drivers, such as the PA02 with one dynamic and four balanced armature drivers and the ANVIL114, which adds a bone conduction unit, so the Unicrom is the single-driver option in the lineup.
Pairing
Its modest impedance and efficient driver let the Unicrom run easily from a phone headphone output, a USB dongle DAC or a portable player. The single-ended plug fits the headphone sockets on phones, laptops and dongles, while the balanced plug suits the balanced sockets of portable players and desktop headphone amplifiers, so one cable covers both kinds of source.
Alternatives
The PULA PA01 is the brand's other earphone with a lone dynamic unit, whose diaphragm is made of LCP rather than beryllium-plated material.
