Engineering and use context

The transducers use Mylar diaphragm elements, which Koss selects to keep mechanical distortion low. Their motors rely on rare-earth magnet structures of neodymium, iron and boron, with the magnet geometry optimised by computer. Voice coils are wound from oxygen-free copper wire. The ear plates pivot in more than one direction so the pads follow the shape of the ear, and foam cushions rest on the ear rather than sealing it, so the wearer stays aware of surrounding traffic and voices. This open, lightweight build is intended for walking, running and other activity where a sealed headphone would block ambient noise. Separate leads go to the left and right cups, so there is no signal lead passing through the headband. Because the band can be swung behind the neck, the Sporta Pro stays in place under a hat or hood, and when collapsed it takes up little space in a jacket pocket or gym bag. Koss markets it as a travel headphone as well as an exercise model.

Given its easy electrical load, a phone, laptop or portable music player can drive it directly without a separate headphone amplifier. Devices without an analogue output require an adapter for USB-C or Lightning, as the Sporta Pro has no wireless or digital connection.
