The H3S is a wireless over-ear model from QCY with closed earcups, with adaptive active noise cancelling, LDAC support and a two driver layout in each earcup. It carries both the wired and wireless Hi-Res Audio logos, folds on flexible hinges and weighs 240 g. QCY lists it at USD 49.99, with a reduced price of USD 33.99 also shown on its own store. For comparison, the earlier QCY H3 was rated at 43 dB of hybrid noise cancelling and 60 hours of playback.
Key specs that matter
In every earcup a 40 mm driver for bass and midrange works together with a 13 mm tweeter, so the low and high frequencies are handled by separate diaphragms. Bluetooth 6.0 has a range of about 10 m and handles three codecs - SBC, AAC and LDAC, with LDAC running at 44.1, 48, 88.2 or 96 kHz. QCY quotes adaptive noise reduction of up to -56 dB. The 3.8 V 750 mAh battery gives up to 102 hours of playback with ANC off and 58 hours with it on. A full recharge over the Type-C socket, which doubles as the wired audio connection, takes about 2.5 hours, and a 10 minute charge adds around 7 hours. Seven microphones are fitted, six of them dedicated to noise cancelling and three designed to reduce wind noise, with AI processing for calls.
Engineering and use context
The electronics are based on the Jieli JL7018F Bluetooth chipset. Besides wireless use, the headphone plays over its USB-C port as a digital audio device at 16 or 24 bit and the same sample rates as LDAC, and noise cancelling stays available in wired mode. Over the same cable the microphones record in 16 bit mono at 16, 44.1 or 48 kHz, so the H3S can also serve as a USB headset for calls and meetings. Two devices can be paired at once, although multipoint is not available while LDAC is active. All controls sit on the right earcup - an ANC button, a multi-function button and a volume rocker, next to an LED indicator. The ear pads use memory foam with a textured synthetic leather cover. A companion app offers game, movie and music modes, custom EQ settings and a 360 degree spatial audio mode.
Pairing
LDAC is supported natively on many Android phones, while iPhones connect through AAC. For a computer without Bluetooth, the USB-C cable gives a direct digital connection.
Alternatives
QCY also makes the H3 Pro, an over-ear model priced at USD 59.99 with LDAC, adaptive noise cancelling up to 50 dB, Bluetooth 5.4 and 40 hours of playback with ANC on or 55 hours with it off.
