The NOIR RAINBOW is a jewelled wireless circumaural model that the German TV brand Loewe produced together with the jeweller Jacob & Co. It belongs to a limited run of ten handcrafted units shared with its sibling ICE DIAMOND, and its estimated US price is about USD 115,000. Beneath the decoration it keeps the closed-back platform Loewe developed for its first over-ear headphone.
Key specs that matter
A 50 mm driver sits in each earcup, and the low-frequency response starts at 20 Hz. Amplification comes from a Texas Instruments chip. Bluetooth 5.3 carries the signal with SBC, AAC, LC3 and LC3+ codecs, and an analogue input is also provided. The battery is a 3.7 V unit of 660 mAh and is rated for up to 65 hours of playback. The headphone weighs 360 g and has IP53 protection against dust and light water exposure.
Engineering and use context
Compared with the regular Leo, only the jewellery changes. Each earcup is ringed by a halo of multicolour sapphires totalling 15.97 carats, set in 14-karat rose gold, and the cups carry etched geometric patterns. Electronics and features follow the standard model, so buyers still get active noise cancelling, a built-in microphone for calls, a voice assistant, AI functions and real-time translation. Content in spatial formats is supported, with tuning for Dolby Atmos. Memory foam ear cushions and a lightweight construction are meant to keep a circumaural fit comfortable over long sessions. Because the gemstones and gold are applied to an existing production headphone, service and battery life should match the regular version rather than a one-off acoustic design, and Loewe positions the pair as a collector object as much as a daily headphone.
Pairing
A Bluetooth phone, tablet or computer can stream to it, and devices that handle LC3 or LC3+ use the newer LE Audio path. The analogue connection allows use with a wired headphone output where wireless is not available, for example on aircraft. As the DAC and amplifier stages are built in, the NOIR RAINBOW needs no external headphone amplifier or DAC in the chain, and firmware features are handled through the same Loewe app used with the standard Leo, which also stores a personal Mimi hearing profile.
Alternatives
The ICE DIAMOND from the same Loewe and Jacob & Co series is the other gem-set option, trading the sapphires for 12.47 carats of white diamonds.
