The Koss KSC75 is a corded clip-on headphone built around an ultra light weight open-air design, which the company pitches for critical listening as well as travel and use at home. It is listed at USD 24.99 and comes in two colourways, Stealth Grey and Silver. Koss covers it with a Limited Lifetime Warranty, the same terms applied to the other wired ear clip models such as the KSC21 and KSC35.

Key specs that matter

Published ratings list 15 Hz to 25,000 Hz for response, a nominal impedance of 60 ohms and a sensitivity of 101 dB SPL per milliwatt, with harmonic distortion stated at under 0.2 percent. The cord is straight with dual entry, 1.2 m long, and fitted with a standard 3.5 mm plug. These electrical figures are identical to those of the USD 44.99 KSC35, so the KSC75 offers the same published ratings at a lower list price.

Engineering and use context

The distinguishing technical feature is a 2 micron titanium coating on the diaphragms. Koss states that the coating adds rigidity and minimizes mechanical distortion, and it lists the titanium coated diaphragms among the core features of the model. The earpieces hang from adjustable pivoting clips, and soft foam cushions sit against the ear. Koss describes the construction as open-air with a hear-through character, so the wearer keeps awareness of the surroundings while listening. The light build is intended for extended wear, and there is no headband joining the two sides. Compared with the KSC21, the range is wider at both ends and the impedance is higher.

Pairing

The standard plug connects directly to handsets that keep an analogue headphone output, to players, laptops, tablets and home sources with a matching output. This sensitivity and impedance pairing is the same combination Koss uses on the KSC35, which the company describes as delivering ample level when driven by low voltage sources. The cable length is shared with the other wired ear clip headphones in the range. There is no microphone or remote on the cable, so the KSC75 is a listening headphone only, while the KSC22i covers phone calls with its in-line microphone and TRRS plug. Buyers who want Bluetooth in the same clip-on shape can look at the KSC35 Wireless, which uses Bluetooth 5.2 and USB-C charging.

Alternatives

Koss also makes the KSC21, a lower priced wired ear clip model with a narrower rated response and a lower impedance.
