The Kaguya 2 is a universal in-ear monitor from See Audio, the successor to the original Kaguya, which used four electrostatic and four balanced armature drivers and appeared about seven years earlier. The new model was released in Japan on 14 June 2025 at JPY 249,000, and international sellers list it at about USD 1,599. It is a hybrid design with nine drivers per side, a six-way crossover and a balanced cable.

Key specs that matter

Each earpiece holds one dynamic driver, four balanced armatures, two bone conduction drivers and two electrostatic drivers. Sensitivity is 110 dB ±1 dB and impedance is 13 ohm ±1 ohm. Frequency response covers 20 Hz to 20 kHz, and distortion is 1% or less at 1 kHz. The shells are made of resin, and the faceplates use natural blue mica with three layers of gold foil. The detachable cable is silver-plated high-purity OCC copper with 0.78 mm two-pin connectors at the earpiece end and a balanced 4.4 mm Pentaconn plug at the source end.

Engineering and use context

Four different driver technologies share the work, and See Audio assigns each a specific range. Bass is assigned to the dynamic driver, the two bone conduction drivers add energy in the low midrange, the balanced armatures cover bass, midrange and treble, and the electrostatic drivers extend the top octave. Bone conduction drivers transmit vibration through the shell into the ear rather than moving air through a nozzle, so they add output without taking space in the sound bore. The six-way crossover, called the MOBIUS Cross Over System in the Japanese launch material, divides the signal between the driver groups and aligns their phase, so that outputs from drivers at different positions inside the shell arrive in step. Electrostatic drivers need a high bias voltage, which in universal in-ear monitors is generated by a small transformer inside the shell, and they respond to very small signals at the top of the audio band. The resin shell is shaped for a universal fit and accepts standard ear tips, so no ear impressions are needed. The two-pin connector allows the cable to be replaced or swapped for a version with a different plug.

Pairing

With its high sensitivity and low impedance, the Kaguya 2 reaches high levels from very little power, so the best partner is a quiet source whose output impedance is low. The supplied cable needs a player, DAC or amplifier with a matching balanced output, and portable players and dongle DACs with that socket drive it directly. Users with only a 3.5 mm output need an adapter or a cable with a single-ended plug.

Alternatives

The original See Audio Kaguya uses four electrostatic and four balanced armature drivers without the dynamic and bone conduction units.
