The JBuds Mini ANC is a true wireless earbud from JLab and the newest addition to the company's Mini family. JLab built it to bring real active noise cancelling into the smallest charging case the brand has made, and says it is the smallest true wireless earbud with ANC from any major headphone brand. Compared with the JLab GO POP+, the case is 50 percent smaller and each earbud 30 percent smaller. The list price is USD 42.99, and colour options include Graphite, Blue and several Jelle finishes such as Iridescent White and Gold Digger.
Key specs that matter
Inside each bud is a 6 mm dynamic driver with a neodymium magnet. Frequency response is 20 Hz to 20 kHz and impedance is 16 ohm. With ANC off, one charge gives 7+ hours in the buds and 25+ hours in total with the case, and with ANC on those figures fall to 5.5+ and 20+ hours. The buds refill in 1.5 hours inside the case, and the case itself charges over USB-C in 2 hours. Bluetooth 6 provides a range of more than 9 m, using the HFP, A2DP and AVRCP profiles with the SBC codec. Each earbud weighs 3.14 g, JLab lists the total product weight as 47.78 g, and the housings carry an IP55 rating against sweat and rain.
Engineering and use context
Active noise cancelling runs from environmental microphones of the MEMS type with a sensitivity of -38 dB plus or minus 1 dB, and the same microphones reduce background noise on calls. A Be Aware mode passes outside sound through for safer listening on the street. Through the JLab app the owner gets a custom EQ, can reassign the touch controls, toggle ANC and Be Aware, and set a safe-listening volume limit. A Lab Spatial Audio EQ preset is included as well. The case works with Apple Find My on an iPhone, and Android phones get Google Fast Pair along with location through Google Find Hub. Bluetooth Multipoint keeps the buds connected to two sources simultaneously, such as a phone plus a laptop. An attached keychain ring lets the case hang from a bag or a set of keys.
Pairing
Since the buds support only SBC, every Bluetooth phone, tablet or laptop links at the same quality level, so there is no need to match codecs. Using a single set across a work laptop and a personal phone is where the multipoint function saves repeated re-pairing.
Alternatives
The JLab JBuds Mini is the non-ANC true wireless version of the same compact design, using Bluetooth 5.3 and priced at USD 39.99.
