The head(amame) Pro is a wired open-back over-ear design by the Vancouver company founded by Morgan Andreychuk and launched through Kickstarter as its move from DIY kits to a finished product. Its cups, yoke and headband are professionally 3D-printed by Pantheon Designs on industrial FDM machines, and the frame is a Kevlar-composite structure. Its public debut came at the AXPONA 2026 show in the United States, where it shared a booth with its tuning partner.

Key specs that matter

A 40mm dynamic driver with a glass diaphragm, thinner than a human hair, sits in each cup, the material chosen for rigidity and damping and to limit flexing under motion. The finished headphone weighs about 280 g, and the company plans to trim that further by replacing a brass pin with an aluminum one and another internal part with carbon fiber. It wears velour-wrapped memory foam earpads, and the headband itself carries no padding, relying instead on a breathable strap from Capra Audio. A braided 1.5 m cable terminated in mini-XLR on the cup side and 3.5 mm on the other comes in the box and can be swapped for any standard lead.

Engineering and use context

Headband and yoke form a plus-shaped frame across the face of each cup, while radial baffles wrap around its perimeter, each hiding a vent visible from the side. The visual design draws on classic Altec horn loudspeakers. The cable enters vertically on the rear face of the cup, nearer its front edge. The modular design is built for repair. Buyers receive the model files for cups, yoke and headband, so parts can be printed at home, and replacement parts are also sold by the company. The frame accepts other compatible dynamic drivers of the same size for experimentation, so the acoustics remain open to the owner. A parts kit covering what cannot be made on a desktop printer was offered separately at USD 130, while the assembled Pro was priced at USD 369 for Kickstarter backers. Choosing the kit route means giving up the factory quality check and warranty that come with the finished unit. Tuning was done with Capra Audio, a maker of aftermarket headphone parts and headbands for the DIY community.

Pairing

No dedicated amplifier is needed, as the Pro plugs straight into a phone, laptop or game controller through its mini-jack plug.

Alternatives

The original head(amame), a DIY kit built around interchangeable drivers, is the other over-ear headphone from the brand.
