Audio-Technica's ATH-AP2000Ti is a sealed over-ear dynamic model with earcups machined from pure titanium, released in Japan on October 19, 2018. It is built entirely in Japan and assembled piece by piece, and every unit carries its own serial number marked on the inside of the headband. The package targets listeners who want a closed design that can travel, with a sheepskin-covered semi-hard case supplied for transport and storage.

Key specs that matter

Each side holds a newly developed 53 mm driver. Official figures are a response of 5 to 50,000 Hz, sensitivity of 100 dB/mW, an impedance of 44 ohm and a maximum input of 2,000 mW. Mass is roughly 300 g with no lead attached. Both earcups have A2DC connector jacks. Three detachable leads come in the box - a 1.2 m and a 3.0 m cable ending in gold-plated 3.5 mm L-shaped stereo mini-plugs, and a 1.2 m balanced cable with a gold-plated 4.4 mm five-pole L-shaped plug - together with a 6.3 mm adapter and a cleaning cloth.

Engineering and use context

Inside the driver, a Permendur magnetic circuit passes the magnet's force to the gap with little loss, joined by a yoke of pure iron for better transient response and a 7N-OFC voice coil. Its diaphragm carries a DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) coating aimed at upper-frequency performance. Housings are cut individually from high-lustre titanium and hand polished, then paired with a moulded baffle of hard PPS resin, so that the stiff metal and resin together keep unwanted vibration down. Core Mount Technology places the voice coil at the point that halves the acoustic space from ear to housing, and the D.A.D.S. (Double Air Damping System) structure used across the brand's closed models relies on an air spring to extend low-frequency response. The frame, arms and sliders are thin magnesium, which trims weight above the cups and moves the balance point lower. Earpads and headband use sheepskin over low-rebound foam with three-dimensional stitching to improve fit and seal. The detachable leads use 6N-OFC wire in a star-quad twisted layout with left and right grounds kept separate to reduce crosstalk.

Pairing

Moderate impedance and high sensitivity let a phone, portable player or laptop output drive the ATH-AP2000Ti directly, while a portable player or DAC offering a balanced output can take the dual-entry balanced lead. The longer cable and the adapter cover a home amplifier. Replacement pads (HP-AP2000Ti) and further A2DC leads such as HDC113A/1.2, HDC114A/1.2 and HDC112A/1.2 are sold separately.
