The SnowSky Retro Nano is a cassette-player-styled pocket device from FiiO's SnowSky sub-brand that receives Bluetooth, decodes USB audio and drives headphones. A 0.96-inch 80 x 160 colour IPS screen plays a turning-tape animation, and the case comes in white or blue. At about 55.1 x 37.5 x 13.7 mm and 28.3 g with its battery fitted, it is small enough to clip to clothing or sit next to a phone. It was released on 29 March 2025 at USD 59.99.

Key specs that matter

Into 32 ohm the 4.4 mm balanced jack delivers at least 220 mW per channel and the 3.5 mm single-ended jack at least 100 mW, both measured at under 1% THD+N. FiiO quotes an SNR of 128 dB or better (A-weighted), a noise floor below 1 µV on each output, THD+N under 0.0018% at 1 kHz into 32 ohm and output impedance under 0.3 ohm. Frequency response reaches from 20 Hz to 40 kHz at -3 dB. Over USB the unit works driver-free up to 96 kHz PCM, with a maximum of 384 kHz/32-bit listed for the USB input. Battery life is about 7.5 hours per charge, and a full recharge takes 2 hours or less from a 5 V 1 A source.

Engineering and use context

Conversion uses two CS43131 chips, one assigned to each channel. Wireless reception runs through a Qualcomm QCC5125 with a dual-core CPU and DSP, supporting Bluetooth 5.1 with LDAC, aptX Adaptive, aptX HD, aptX LL, aptX, AAC and SBC. Instead of a sealed pack, the player takes a 450 mAh 3.7 V lithium cell compatible with the 10440 size, so a spent battery can be swapped for a fresh one. Three modes - Bluetooth, computer and phone - are selected from the on-screen menu. Controls along the top edge include a mode button that also swaps the animated backgrounds, a play and select key, volume up and down keys working over 60 steps, and an on-off slider. Eight retro-themed EQ presets are built in, and further tuning can be done in the FiiO Control app or a web tool, which also deliver OTA firmware updates. Inline remote and microphone controls follow the CTIA standard.

Pairing

That low output impedance makes the Retro Nano a fit for sensitive in-ear monitors, while the balanced jack is the better choice for full-size headphones of moderate impedance. The supplied Type-C to Type-C cable links it to a phone or computer, while the Bluetooth path frees the headphones from the source when the phone stays in a pocket or bag. The box also holds an empty protective case for a spare cell, a lanyard and a sticker kit.

Alternatives

Within the SnowSky range, FiiO also makes the Melody, a bus-powered wooden-bodied DAC and headphone amplifier with two Cirrus 43131 chips plus single-ended and balanced outputs.
