iFi Audio ZEN Air Blue 2

The ZEN Air Blue 2 is a desktop Bluetooth receiver with its own DAC and RCA outputs, made by iFi Audio, the British digital audio brand. It replaces the first ZEN Air Blue and belongs to the ZEN Air 2 family together with the ZEN Air DAC 2 and the ZEN Air Phono 2. It was launched in 2025 at GBP 129, and it adds Bluetooth playback to any amplifier or powered speaker with a line input.
Key specs that matter
Reception runs on a Qualcomm QCC3095 series chipset with Bluetooth 5.4. Codecs are aptX Lossless, LDAC, aptX Adaptive, aptX HD, aptX, AAC and SBC, with aptX Lossless at up to 1,200 kbps and hi-res playback up to 96 kHz through LDAC and LHDC. Range is 10 m. The RCA output delivers 2.1 V RMS at 0 dBFS with an output impedance of 51 ohm or less. Engineering and use context
The signal passes through three stages. The Qualcomm chip receives and decodes the Bluetooth stream, an ESS Sabre DAC converts it and a custom OV op-amp stage drives the analogue output. Keeping these functions on separate parts lets each be chosen for its job instead of relying on the converter built into a Bluetooth chip. aptX Lossless carries CD-resolution audio without data reduction when the phone supports it, while LDAC and LHDC carry higher sample rates with compression. The antenna design has been revised, and a short and a long antenna are both supplied, so the owner can choose between a compact installation and longer reach. The wide DC input range means the unit can run in a car or from a battery system as well as from a mains adapter, and it switches on automatically with the vehicle ignition, with a physical power button for use at home. A 1.2 m USB-to-DC cable is included. The warranty is one year, or two years in the EU.
