The UHD121 is an HDMI controller from Meridian Audio, the British company based in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, known for its DSP loudspeakers. It connects a television and its sources to Meridian's DSP loudspeakers and controllers.

Key specs that matter

The UHD121 connects to a TV's HDMI eARC or ARC port and has one additional HDMI input for another source. It passes two-channel LPCM audio up to 192 kHz/24-bit. HDMI CEC lets the TV remote power the system and control volume, and the Meridian app and third-party control systems are supported. Two Meridian SpeakerLink connections on RJ45, Master and Slave, link it to Meridian DSP loudspeakers and controllers. The unit is 35.5 mm high.

Engineering and use context

Meridian's DSP loudspeakers contain their own amplifiers, DACs and crossovers and receive their signal digitally through SpeakerLink, Meridian's system bus that carries audio and control. A television has no SpeakerLink output, so the UHD121 bridges the two, taking audio from the TV over eARC and converting it to SpeakerLink while handling control. With CEC, the system switches on and off with the TV and responds to its volume commands, so the owner needs no additional remote. The extra HDMI input lets a second source, such as a streaming box or games console, connect directly. SpeakerLink can be wired in a daisy chain from speaker to speaker or star-wired from the controller. Meridian stresses that the unit is a manufacturer-engineered controller for its own DSP ecosystem, unlike generic eARC adapters, and that it works with existing Meridian DSP systems, allowing owners to add TV sound without replacing their speakers. Its small height suits installation behind a TV or in a cabinet. Meridian positions the product mainly for custom installers, for whom quick setup reduces time on site. Meridian also makes the 251 Powered Zone Controller for multi-room systems.

Pairing

The UHD121 pairs with any Meridian DSP loudspeakers, such as the DSP8000 or the Reference in-wall DSP730 and DSP750, and any TV with HDMI ARC or eARC.

Alternatives

Meridian's 218 Zone Controller is the brand's compact controller for multi-room and architectural installations.
