The Tocata XM2 is a compact digital audio player from ONIX that pairs the brand's design style with a pure music platform in a small aluminium body. It borrows the design language of the Overture XM5 player and was announced for December 2025 at USD 439. The system runs on an Ingenic X2000 processor with an operating system developed in-house, a lean system dedicated to music playback rather than a general-purpose platform.
Key specs that matter
Decoding uses the Cirrus Logic CS4308P, an 8-channel DAC set up as a fully balanced circuit, and supports PCM up to 32-bit and 768 kHz plus native DSD512. From the 3.5 mm single-ended jack output is 1.28 V or 51 mW into 32 ohm in low gain and 2.56 V or 204 mW in high gain, with 0.4 ohm output impedance. The 4.4 mm balanced jack gives 2.54 V or 200 mW in low gain and 5.08 V or 800 mW in high gain into 32 ohm, with 0.7 ohm output impedance. Frequency response is 20 Hz to 40 kHz within 0.5 dB, THD+N is 0.0005% at 32 ohm, signal-to-noise ratio is 121 dB and channel separation is 112 dB. The player measures 82 x 65 x 18 mm and weighs 140 g.
Engineering and use context
After the DAC, an I/V conversion stage developed by ONIX and named Brighton feeds dual SGM amplifiers. The front is a square 76 mm OLED touchscreen with 720 x 720 resolution, backed by four physical buttons and a volume wheel, and the screen matches the panel of the Overture XM5 in size. The 3,000 mAh battery gives up to 8.5 hours of play from either output and charges at 12 W PD through a standard USB-C socket. Music can be stored on a microSD card of up to 2 TB. Over 2.4 and 5 GHz Wi-Fi the player streams TIDAL and works with DLNA and AirPlay, and it can be controlled remotely from the ONIX SyncLink app on Android or iOS. Bluetooth version 5.2 is fitted.
Pairing
Wired listening goes through either the single-ended or the balanced socket, and both accept headphones or in-ear monitors. For wireless headphones the player transmits over Bluetooth with LDAC, aptX HD and aptX as well as SBC and AAC, though Bluetooth LE audio and aptX Lossless are not supported. Through the USB-C port it can pass a digital signal to an external DAC, or act as a USB DAC itself when connected to a computer.
Alternatives
The ONIX Overture XM5 is a more powerful player of the brand with an ES9039 PRO DAC, two TPA6120A2 amplifiers giving 1 W into 32 ohm, and a 7,000 mAh battery rated for up to 14 hours.
