The Sovereign is a power and grounding appliance from EnKlein of Branson West, Missouri, in the Ozark Mountains, the company founded in 2008 by David Kleinbeck, its CEO and Chief Science Officer. EnKlein calls it its flagship power and grounding solution. It distributes mains power and gives all analogue and digital components in a system one shared ground reference. It was announced on 8 January 2026 after more than two years of development, at USD 20,000 excluding shipping, duties and taxes.
Key specs that matter
The front panel carries six Furutech binding posts for chassis or system grounding and a power LED with bright, dim and off settings. On the rear, a dedicated binding post with a proprietary directional in-line filter lets other EnKlein devices, such as the Ground Zero and the SHT Power distributor, be cascaded from it while guarding against ground loops. Inside are dual nested Faraday cages, 15 SHT master-grade noise-inhibition circuits, high-permeability broadband metallised-glass amorphous chokes and three high-current aerospace-grade rhodium-plated copper bus bars for each of the three mains conductors. The high-mass, non-conductive chassis was designed with Stanislav Stoyanov of Thrax Audio, and the unit weighs under 12 kg.
Engineering and use context
A shared ground reference means every component connected to the Sovereign refers its chassis and signal ground to the same point, which reduces the ground-potential differences that cause hum and noise between components. The binding posts on the front connect chassis grounds through separate ground cables, independent of the signal cables. Nested Faraday cages screen the internal circuits from external electromagnetic fields in two layers. Amorphous metal chokes have high permeability across a broad frequency range, so they suppress high-frequency noise on the supply lines. Heavy bus bars carry mains current with low resistance to all outlets, and rhodium plating resists oxidation. A non-conductive chassis avoids forming another conductive path or antenna around the circuits. The directional filter on the cascade post allows a larger system to be grounded through several EnKlein devices. EnKlein builds its products by hand in small batches, and its first product, a solid-silver instrument cable, appeared in 2009.
Pairing
EnKlein recommends its ION ground cables or the XerXes directional ground for connecting components to the Sovereign.
