The Smart Power 24V is an external battery supply from Clearaudio, the Erlangen turntable maker, intended for its decks of the Ovation, Innovation and Statement series. Instead of feeding the motor electronics straight from a mains adapter, it runs them from a rechargeable battery pack and recharges that pack on its own. Clearaudio places it among its latest generation of power supplies that work independently of the mains while music is playing.

The storage element is a NiMH battery with a capacity of 5,000 mAh. On the input side the unit accepts 100 to 240 V AC at 50 or 60 Hz and draws at most 1.6 A. The output is 24 V DC at up to 1.6 A, protected electronically with slow-blow behaviour. Long-life NiMH cells give a steady output, and Clearaudio's reasoning is that a supply without fluctuations lets the motor run quietly and evenly for many hours without direct dependence on the mains. A charging system works continuously in the background, watching currents and voltages at both input and output. From these readings it calculates how much running time is left and changes over to charging automatically, and a status display on the unit shows what it is doing. This matters for decks such as the Innovation, whose belt drive uses a high-torque 24 V DC motor with optical speed control, because the regulation electronics then receive a clean, stable voltage. Clearaudio also describes its smaller 12 V supply as derived from this model, which makes the Smart Power 24V the base design of the family.

The Smart Power 24V is matched to Clearaudio turntables from the Ovation, Innovation and Statement families, where it replaces the standard supply between the wall socket and the drive electronics. The Innovation itself draws at most 9.3 W and 2.5 W in normal running, well inside the output rating of the battery supply.
