The RS 275 TV Headphones are a wireless system from Sennheiser, the German audio company, designed for watching television without disturbing others. The set combines the HDR 275 over-ear headphones with the BTA1 TV transmitter, supplied pre-paired. It went on sale in February 2026 and uses Bluetooth Auracast to broadcast to several listeners.
Key specs that matter
The headphones use 37 mm dynamic drivers with a frequency range of 6 Hz to 22 kHz (-10 dB), sensitivity of 104 dB SPL and THD below 0.3%. They connect by Bluetooth 5.4 and Auracast, supporting LC3, aptX, aptX Adaptive, SBC and AAC. Battery life is up to 50 hours, with charging in about 2 hours. Weight is about 195 g. The BTA1 transmitter has optical mini Toslink, HDMI ARC and 3.5 mm analogue inputs, a range of up to 50 m and latency of about 50 ms. It accepts stereo PCM at 44.1 to 48 kHz and Dolby Digital at up to 640 kbps.
Engineering and use context
The transmitter uses Bluetooth Auracast, a broadcast mode of LE Audio, so it can send the TV sound to any number of Auracast headphones at once, and each listener sets volume and features independently. The TV speakers can stay on while others listen on headphones. Low latency of about 50 ms keeps sound in step with the picture. The headphones also work as normal Bluetooth headphones with phones and tablets, and two omnidirectional MEMS microphones handle calls. There is no active noise cancellation. The closed earcups provide passive damping, and an Ambient Awareness mode lets the listener hear the room. Sennheiser offers virtual surround modes and a speech intelligibility function to make dialogue easier to follow. The lithium-polymer battery of 420 mAh is replaceable by the user, and Sennheiser states its batteries last an average of up to 12 years. The earpads can also be replaced. The headphones charge from the USB-C socket on the transmitter, and a stand is supplied that holds both. The headphones fold flat to 160 x 210 x 80 mm. The Sennheiser Smart Control Plus app for iOS and Android adjusts settings. The package includes optical and analogue cables and two USB cables.
Pairing
The BTA1 connects to any television with an optical, HDMI ARC or analogue output. Additional Auracast headphones can join the broadcast for shared viewing.
Alternatives
Sennheiser's RS 175 is the earlier TV headphone system of the brand with its own digital transmitter.
