The Pro Sub Isolator is a subwoofer connection device from MSB Technology. It addresses a specific problem - the amplifier inside a powered subwoofer can feed noise back onto the signal lines from a DAC or preamplifier, and the main power amplifiers then magnify that low-level noise.
Engineering and use context
Rather than taking the line-level signal, the Pro Sub Isolator taps the signal at speaker level, after the main power amplifiers, where it is strong enough to be unaffected by feedback from the subwoofer amplification. An audiophile grade transformer isolates the incoming signal and lowers it to a level suitable for the subwoofer input.
Its input uses speaker binding posts accepting either spade or banana terminations, connected directly to a loudspeaker or power amplifier output. The device draws very little power from that speaker-level signal, so light cabling can be used instead of heavy speaker wire.
