The Chord Company PhonoARAY is a standalone turntable earthing system that connects the earth of a turntable to the earth of a separate phono preamplifier or to the phono section of an integrated amp, filtering the ground path to protect the low-level cartridge signal.
Key specs that matter
Inside, a hand-wound ultra-high-current series filter joins the two terminals, with Chord's proprietary ARAY circuit connected in parallel. Together they form a double virtual earth system for both the turntable and the phono stage. Connections are two 4 mm speaker-style terminals that accept 4 mm banana plugs and spades.
Engineering and use context
The thick-walled enclosure is machined from solid aluminium billet and resin filled to reduce microphony, and it stands on lightweight decoupled isolation feet. In systems with an external phono stage a second PhonoARAY can be added between the phono stage earth and the amplifier earth.
