The Ouranos Signature is a stereo acoustic processor from Goldmund, the Swiss company that builds its products in Geneva. It sits below the 16-channel Ouranos Excellence and is intended for demanding stereo systems.

Key specs that matter

Inputs are two HDMI, one coaxial S/PDIF, one optical and USB audio. USB accepts PCM up to 384 kHz and 32 bits and DSD64 and DSD128 by DoP. Outputs are four coaxial S/PDIF, each carrying two channels, and an HDMI output with ARC and eARC for a display or processor. It decodes PCM 2.0, multichannel PCM 7.1, DTS, DTS HD, Dolby and Dolby HD, downmixing all multichannel content to stereo. The processor outputs up to 8 channels at 96 kHz and 24 bits. Maximum power consumption is 15 W. The unit measures 38.5 x 34 x 10 cm and weighs 7.55 kg. The standard colour is grey, with black on request.

Engineering and use context

Instead of being a simple converter, the Ouranos Signature is a digital hub that processes the signal in the digital domain and sends it to active loudspeakers or to digital-input amplifiers. The DSP is backed by a large amount of external RAM, and the main board provides precise clock generation and synchronisation to minimise jitter and keep all output channels aligned. Its eight outputs let a stereo system use separate channels for the speaker drivers and for one or more subwoofers, extending the range of the main speakers. Goldmund's Leonardo time correction, built into its active speakers, can also be applied to passive speakers such as the Tethys and Rhea by loading settings into the processor's DSP. The HDMI inputs and eARC output bring television and film sound into the stereo system. Control is by two front-panel knobs, numeric displays and an RC5 remote. It belongs to Goldmund's Ouranos generation of processors, designed around DSP processing and integration with Goldmund's active and passive loudspeakers. The Goldmund Configurator, available online and offline on computers and mobile devices, sets gain, delay and filtering, updates the firmware and manages configuration files, which can be downloaded as Goldmund refines them.

Pairing

The Ouranos Signature is designed for Goldmund's active speakers or its passive speakers driven by Goldmund amplifiers. Sources include a television by HDMI and a computer or streamer by USB.

Alternatives

Goldmund's Ouranos Excellence is the larger processor of the same generation for multichannel systems.
