The OMNI LAN from SilentPower is an audiophile network switch built to shield streaming components from electrical noise carried over the home network. It combines optical galvanic separation, a femto-grade internal clock and a front-panel colour display in one chassis, and its European price was EUR 800.

Key specs that matter

There are 13 ports split into two sections. The standard input section has eight RJ45 ports and one SFP slot for an optical module, serving routers, servers and other network gear. The Ultra-Pure output section, reserved for streamers, has two RJ45 ports, one SC single-mode optical port and one M12 X-code 8-pin connector. Bandwidth is rated at 1000 Mbps with a 120 Mbps transfer rate, data jitter is 0.052 ms and packet loss stays at or below 0.1 percent. Isolation voltage is 5 kV RMS. The case measures 214 x 158 x 41 mm, weighs 1.06 kg and can be rack mounted.

Engineering and use context

The standard ports use single-stage isolation, while the Ultra-Pure ports get three-stage galvanic isolation, with incoming data converted to light and back so that input and output share no electrical path. Timing comes from the GMT femto-precision internal clock, which has both sync input and output. A BNC input accepts an optional 10 MHz external reference as a sine or square wave at 1 Vpp nominal into 75 ohms, and synchronisation can be switched on or off. Power arrives as DC between 9 V at 1.5 A and 15 V at 0.9 A, centre positive, and the maker specifies an audiophile-grade iPower supply with active noise cancellation, followed inside by multi-stage LC filtering. Consumption is about 7 W with no signal and about 10 W at maximum. Three grounding modes, DC-RF, RF and ISO, help deal with ground loops in larger systems. The TFT screen shows live bandwidth for each port and its orientation can be rotated, while the iFi Nexis app handles remote control and over-the-air firmware updates. Warranty is 12 months.

Pairing

The Ultra-Pure section is the place for a network streamer or renderer, and the SC or M12 connections suit streamers with optical or industrial Ethernet inputs. The router, NAS and computers belong on the standard ports, with an SFP module available when the incoming line from the router is fibre.

Alternatives

For a smaller system that needs isolation without a full switch, the SilentPower LAN iPurifier Pro 4-In/4-Out is the brand's optically isolated network conditioner.
