The Mu-so Hekla is an all-in-one wireless Dolby Atmos sound system in soundbar form, sold under the Focal name and developed jointly within Focal and Naim. Focal designed the acoustics and Naim the amplification, and it is the first Mu-so product to carry the Focal brand, earlier Mu-so models having been Naim products. It was announced in Seoul on 10 November 2025, with a global rollout in the first quarter of 2026, at EUR 3,300, USD 3,600 and GBP 3,000. The name comes from the Hekla volcano in Iceland.
Key specs that matter
Fifteen drivers are fitted. On the front are three 13 x 6 cm woofers, two 6 cm midrange drivers and two 25 mm tweeters, four 4 x 7 cm full-range drivers face the sides and four more face upward. Class D amplification totals 660 W, made up of three 60 W and twelve 40 W channels, so the fifteen drivers each have a dedicated amplifier channel. Frequency response is 30 Hz to 20 kHz ±3 dB, and peak output reaches 108 dB at 1 m. Dolby Atmos is supported up to 7.1.4 through Dolby AC-4, together with Dolby Digital, TrueHD and MAT. Connections are HDMI eARC, optical up to 96 kHz and 24 bit, an RCA subwoofer output, Wi-Fi 6 and Ethernet. The unit measures 1000 x 118 x 295 mm and weighs 15.5 kg.
Engineering and use context
Drivers on the sides spread the front channels outward, and the upward-firing drivers produce the height channels of Atmos mixes by reflecting sound from the ceiling. Music playback covers WAV up to 32 bit and 384 kHz, FLAC, AIFF and ALAC up to 24 bit and 384 kHz, MP3, AAC, OGG and OPUS, DSD64 and DSD128, and multichannel FLAC and WAV up to 192 kHz. Streaming support includes AirPlay 2, Chromecast, Bluetooth 5.1, Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz and Amazon Music. The Focal and Naim app controls the system, which can also respond to a smartwatch, Siri and Google voice commands, and up to 32 devices can be combined in a multiroom group. The housing is brushed and sandblasted black aluminium, and the anodised heatsinks are part of the design. Focal specifies the system for rooms of up to 40 m2.
Pairing
A television connects through HDMI eARC, which carries Dolby Atmos from the television's apps and from sources connected to it. A powered subwoofer can be connected to the RCA output for deeper bass, and other Focal and Naim streaming products join through multiroom.
