The Envy Extreme MK3 8K-48G is a dedicated home theater video processor from madVR Labs of Rockville, Maryland, announced on 3 September 2025 alongside the Envy Pro MK3 and Envy Core MK2. It replaces the Extreme MK2, and in the current range it is placed above the Pro MK3, which madVR positions between the Core and the Extreme. List price at launch was USD 15,995, with shipping planned from fall 2025 and upgrade paths offered to owners of the Extreme MK1 and MK2. The box is wired into the video chain ahead of a projector or display and handles no audio processing of its own.

Key specs that matter

Processing runs on an NVIDIA 5080 GPU rated at 43,000 GFLOPS of general graphics power and 172,000 to 344,000 tensor-core GFLOPS for AI work, backed by a 6-core, 12-thread CPU and dual-channel ECC memory. The rear panel carries one HDMI 2.1 input with HDCP 2.3 at the full 48 Gbps, one zero-latency HDMI pass-through port and one HDMI 2.1 output. Inputs accept up to 12-bit 4K120 with full chroma resolution or 8K60 with subsampled chroma, while the output reaches 12-bit 4K120 or 8K60, both with full chroma. Variable Refresh Rate works on the input, and the output supports VRR at 120, 240 and 360 Hz, the last with Display Stream Compression. The 4U chassis measures 440 x 443 x 192 mm with its feet, draws 60 to 450 W from a 100 to 240 V supply, and ships at 21.8 kg.

Engineering and use context

All algorithms run at 96-bit floating point per pixel with full chroma resolution. The feature set includes frame-by-frame HDR dynamic tone mapping, AI upscaling, the DeintAI deinterlacing engine for Blu-ray and 1080i broadcast, and bi-directional Non-Linear Stretch for both scope (wide) screens and standard widescreen TVs with instant black bar detection. Two functions are reserved for this model within the range - MotionAI, a per-pixel AI motion interpolation, and Geometry Correction for anamorphic lens barrel distortion, curved screens and off-axis projector installs. Calibration uses 3D LUTs up to 256 cubed and 1D LUTs of 4,096 points with 12-bit precision, with Calman and ColourSpace support. Output can be upscaled to 5K or 8K, and a low-latency gaming mode is built in. The warranty runs five years, and the Extreme MK3 is the only Envy eligible for paid future hardware upgrades.

Pairing

VRR input suits sources such as gaming PCs, PlayStation 5 Pro and Xbox Series X. IP control works with Crestron, Control4, Savant and RTI, and lens memories of JVC and Sony projectors are recalled over the network.

Alternatives

The madVR Envy Pro MK3 uses an NVIDIA 5060 GPU in the same 4U format at USD 10,995.
