Engineering and use context

Amplification is fully digital, so the signal stays in the digital domain from input to the output stage rather than being converted to analogue in between. A Twin Power Supply Circuit System gives the amplifier circuits their own supply, independent of everything else, feeding two separate transformers. The moving-magnet phono stage also has a dedicated supply and shielded construction to keep interference from the digital circuits out of the low-level record signal. Wireless playback of high-resolution files is possible, and the unit is controlled through the Technics Audio Center app as well as its remote.

A turntable fitted with an MM cartridge connects directly to the phono socket, and a TV or other digital source can use the optical or coaxial socket. One analogue line input, a USB-A port for storage, a subwoofer output and a 3.5 mm headphone jack complete the connections. Streaming covers Spotify Connect, TIDAL, Qobuz and Amazon Music, with Chromecast built-in, AirPlay 2 and Bluetooth using AAC and SBC codecs. The two power ratings use different test methods, so the full-bandwidth FTC figure is the safer one to weigh against speaker sensitivity, and a powered sub on the dedicated output can take over the lowest bass from small cabinets.
