The Emotiva BasX MR1L is a cinema receiver that combines a 13.2-channel surround sound processor with a 9-channel power amplifier in a single chassis. Both Dolby Atmos and DTS:X formats are handled, and speaker layouts are supported from 2.1 up to 7.2.4. Emotiva listed it at USD 1,599, though it has since been discontinued. Boxed, it weighs 19 kg.

Engineering and use context

Decoding is performed by an Analog Devices SHARC DSP, covering Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Atmos, Dolby Surround, DTS:X, DTS HD Master Audio and DTS Neural X. The amplifier section draws on a 660 VA toroidal transformer. Measured with connectors attached, the receiver occupies 508 x 254 x 559 mm. Outputs include nine speaker channels, 13.2 channels of unbalanced line-level preamp outputs and two balanced subwoofer outputs. The full preamp set allows the internal amplifier to be switched off entirely so the MR1L acts only as a surround processor, or an optional 4-channel amplifier can be added to reach 13.2 channels. A backlit remote with Live Trim is supplied, and the mains input detects 115 or 230 V AC at 50 or 60 Hz automatically.

Pairing

With nine powered channels the MR1L can run a 5.1.4 or 7.1.2 layout on its own, while the two balanced subwoofer outputs feed active subwoofers. For larger 7.2.4 systems, an external stereo or multichannel power amplifier connects to the line outputs for the remaining channels.
