The TS P75 is a valve line preamplifier from Galion Audio, the brand that also trades as ThomasAndStereo and is run by Thomas Tan. It was designed together with Doge Audio, is made in China and is sold and shipped from Canada, with HIFIPILOT handling distribution in the EU. The price is USD 1,995. It has no DAC, phono stage, headphone output or streaming, and it is intended as the partner of the Galion TS A75 power amplifier.

Key specs that matter

Four 12AT7 double triodes do the amplification, two per channel, and the unit ships with PSVANE 12AT7-S valves. The rear carries four RCA line inputs and two sets of RCA outputs, with no balanced connections. Input sensitivity is 500 mV for 2 V output, the maximum input is 8 V and input impedance is 50 kOhm. Output impedance is below 600 ohm, and rated output is above 30 V. Frequency response runs from 8 Hz to 160 kHz, THD is 0.01% at 1 kHz and 2 V output, and noise sits 100 dB or more below the signal. Power consumption is 35 W. The preamplifier measures 435 x 330 x 108 mm and weighs 10 kg.

Engineering and use context

Custom toroidal transformers feed one supply per channel, keeping the two channels off a common rail. Volume is set by a Japanese Alps potentiometer driven by a motor, and the knob turns visibly when the remote is used. The signal path uses Clarity capacitors, six per channel, together with Solen film and foil polypropylene types and Jupiter capacitors, and the internal wiring is chosen by hand. Because the valves sit in sockets, owners can try other 12AT7 types in place of the supplied ones. The brushed black aluminium front carries five buttons with blue LEDs, and the solid aluminium remote has six buttons for mute, standby, input selection and volume. On the rear, a ground switch helps when a hum loop appears between components, and a trigger jack can switch a connected amplifier on and off with the preamplifier. Versions for 120 V and 220 to 240 V mains are made, fused at T2AL and T1AL respectively. The warranty runs for two years, with six months on the valves.

Pairing

The TS A75 power amplifier is the intended partner. The large output swing lets the P75 drive long interconnects and power amplifiers of any common input sensitivity, and the second RCA output can feed a powered subwoofer or a second amplifier for bi-amping. Digital sources need an external DAC with line-level RCA outputs.

Alternatives

Galion Audio offers no other preamplifier design, as the TS P75C uses the same circuit in a case with rounded corners.
