The Caspian 4G Streaming Pre-Amplifier is the control unit of the Caspian Series 4G from Roksan, a company that started in London in 1985. It joined the range on 26 January 2026 together with the Caspian 4G Power Amplifier, priced at GBP 3,500, USD 4,500 or EUR 4,000, and comes in silver or black with a 5-year warranty.
Key specs that matter
Analogue inputs are one balanced XLR pair, two RCA pairs and separate MM and MC phono sockets. Digital inputs cover two coaxial, two optical, HDMI eARC and Bluetooth aptX, while BluOS handles network streaming up to 24-bit/192kHz over wired or wireless links and across as many as 64 zones, with Roon Ready certification and MQA support. Outputs are one XLR pair, two RCA pairs and a dedicated subwoofer feed. Gigabit Ethernet, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth Low Energy, a 12V trigger and wired IR complete the rear panel. The case measures 93 x 432 x 378 mm and weighs 10.1 kg.
Engineering and use context
Digital conversion uses the Rapture DAC in a dual-mono balanced layout, with a Burr Brown PCM1796 running in mono mode per channel and a discrete current-conveyor stage doing the I/V conversion instead of an op-amp. The phono stage is built around NE5532 devices, offers three gain settings with a default of 53 dB adjustable by 6 dB either way, has a nominal sensitivity of 1.74 mV, and each channel gets its own RIAA calibration. Volume is set by a hybrid scheme that works in 10 dB steps in the analogue domain and fills the gaps digitally. The analogue path is fully balanced, and ground-switched inputs cut crosstalk between sources. Linear supplies feed the analogue rails, and a switch-mode supply powers the control and digital sections. The case is extruded from 6 mm aluminium, the front carries an OLED display with customisable input icons and a haptic control dial, and setup plus firmware updates run through the MaestroUnite app, with an extruded aluminium remote supplied.
Pairing
The intended partner is the Caspian 4G Power Amplifier, a class AB Euphoria design with separate supplies for its voltage and current stages that can run in stereo or as a mono-block, sold at GBP 3,000 or USD 3,750, or GBP 6,500 for the pair of boxes. Other power amplifiers can be driven over the balanced XLR link, HDMI eARC brings in television audio, and the sub output lets a powered subwoofer join the system.
Alternatives
Roksan earlier offered the Caspian Pre-Amplifier from the 2004 Caspian M Series, a dual-mono line preamplifier with isolated power supplies for each channel.
