The 80 PRE is a streaming preamplifier from Cyrus Audio's 80 Series, released in August 2026 at GBP 4,499 or USD 5,995. Together with the 80 PWR power amplifier it forms the first full-size Cyrus separates, built in a 430 mm wide chassis rather than the half-width format the British company used for forty years. Cyrus designs and builds it in the United Kingdom, and it is covered by a 5-year warranty.

Key specs that matter

The DAC is the ESS Sabre ES9039Q2M, a 32-bit converter, handling PCM up to 24 bit and 192 kHz as well as MQA. Streaming runs on BluOS, with AirPlay 2 and Roon Ready support and built-in Wi-Fi. Analogue connections comprise a phono input, four line inputs and one balanced XLR input. Digital inputs are two optical, two coaxial, asynchronous USB-B and HDMI eARC. The main output is balanced XLR, and a headphone amplifier provides both a balanced headphone output and a standard headphone output. The 80 PRE is intended for the 80 PWR, a Class A/B stereo power amplifier rated at 200 W per channel, or 300 W in bridged mono, which accepts only balanced XLR input. The XLR output of the 80 PRE matches this, so the connection between the two units is balanced throughout. The preamplifier circuit itself is also Class A/B. Bringing the DAC, streaming, phono stage and headphone amplifier into one chassis means the 80 PRE covers all sources in a system, and a power amplifier completes it. BluOS provides multiroom playback and control through one app, and vinyl needs no extra box, since MM and MC cartridges connect directly. HDMI eARC allows a television to be integrated, with its sound passing through the preamplifier and the connected power amplifier. The asynchronous USB-B input lets the DAC's own clock control the timing of data from a computer. The balanced headphone output gives headphones with balanced cables their own drive on each side of the driver, while the standard jack serves conventional headphones.

The 80 PWR is the matching power amplifier, connected through XLR. The half-width 40 CD player and 40 PPA phono stage from Cyrus can be added for disc playback and upgraded vinyl replay.
