The XDA-AMP5400RK is an eight-channel, four-zone amplifier from Yamaha designed for custom-installed whole-home audio systems. Yamaha conceived it as a companion to the XDA-QS5400RK, adding speaker coverage or extra output power, and it can also drive secondary zones from Yamaha AV receivers that have Zone pre outs. The chassis is one rack unit high and a full rack wide.

The eight channels are grouped as four stereo pairs, and each pair can be bridged. Engineering and use context

The output stages are Class D, built on ICEpower integrated circuits. Yamaha uses a differential circuit design to prevent ground loop hum when many devices share a rack, along with a balanced audio circuit and PML capacitors of the type found in the AVENTAGE AV separates. The rear panel carries four RCA inputs, four RCA pass-through outputs, four Euroblock speaker terminals, four trigger inputs and four trigger outputs, plus one IR input and one IR output. The four audio buses can be linked with supplied jumper plugs and cables, so one source can feed several zones, and the outputs can also go to powered subwoofers or subwoofer amplifiers. Audio sensing inputs and an automatic standby function let the amplifier wake and sleep without a control system. Removable rack ears and a magnetic faceplate are included, and the AC cord is detachable.

Pairing

The natural partner is the XDA-QS5400RK, whose trigger ports switch individual amplifier zones on and off. For other sources, such as an AV receiver with Zone pre outs or a streamer with line outputs, the audio sensing inputs handle power control. Any passive speaker at or above the minimum rated load can be connected, and bridging a pair raises the power sent to selected speakers that need more headroom.
