The U-Amp is a small two-channel power amplifier made by Audel, the Italian company founded by Walter Carzan in 2007 in Casteldaccia, near Palermo in Sicily. Audel mainly makes loudspeakers, in the Classic, AudelTrend and Monitor collections, and braces them with its patented IRS Internal Rib System of stacked birch plywood. The U-Amp is part of a desktop system presented in 2025 together with the U-DAC converter and the Nika Trend speakers, and it costs EUR 640.

Key specs that matter

It is a Class D design with one line-level RCA input. Output is 50 W per channel into 8 ohm and 75 W into 4 ohm, THD is below 0.1% at 3 dB below rated power and noise sits more than 100 dB A-weighted below the signal. Frequency response runs from 20 Hz to 20 kHz within 1.5 dB, crosstalk is 80 dB at 1 kHz and input impedance is 22 kOhm. Input sensitivity is 1.2 V as delivered, or 0.6 V with an internal jumper fitted. The power supply is built in and works on 110 to 220 V AC mains. The case measures 23 x 6.5 x 21.5 cm, and the finishes Art Mendini, Burl Walnut and Walnut all cost the same.

Engineering and use context

With a single input and no source selection, the U-Amp is designed to be fed by one source, in Audel's system the U-DAC connected over analogue RCA. The jumper lets the gain be matched to that source, as the standard setting suits sources with a high output level, while the more sensitive setting lets a source with a lower output reach full power. In Class D the output transistors act as fast switches, either fully on or fully off, so little energy is lost as heat, which allows the rated power from a small case without large heat sinks. The U-DAC uses an ESS ES9038Q2M converter with an Amanero Combo384 USB interface, handles PCM up to 32 bit and 384 kHz and DSD512 and has a USB input only, so the system is built around playback from a computer. The Nika Trend speakers are based on the Nika MK3 and use 3 inch full-range drivers. The wood finishes place the amplifier alongside Audel's wooden speakers on a desk, and the art finish follows the decorative style that runs through the brand's range.

Pairing

The Nika Trend speakers are the intended partners, and their small full-range drivers suit near-field listening at a desk. Larger passive speakers of ordinary impedance can also be used in a room of about 20 m2, with the U-DAC or another line-level source that has its own volume control in front of the amplifier.

Audel has no other current stereo power amplifier, as its earlier Audamp is listed as an integrated amplifier.
