The Tune Three is a two-channel valve and MOSFET amplifier from hARt Lab, based in Chalandri, Greece, a company that builds only amplifiers, preamplifiers, power amplifiers and one integrated. It belongs to hARt Lab's Reference line alongside the Tune Two preamplifier, and it was presented at High End Munich 2022 and 2023. At Munich the Tune Three was listed at EUR 30,000.
Key specs that matter
The Tune Three is a dual-mono design with valve voltage amplification and a MOSFET output stage, with zero negative feedback. Output is 2 x 165 W into 8 ohms, and bandwidth is 5 Hz to 100 kHz. The chassis is made of amorphous wooden fibreboard with FloatO anti-resonance feet built into the base. Side panels are removable and interchangeable in different colours, finished with the MICoat painting process.
Engineering and use context
hARt Lab's approach uses only two amplification stages, voltage gain from valves and current gain from MOSFETs. This hybrid gives valve voltage amplification without an output transformer, since the MOSFET stage drives the speaker directly, avoiding the bandwidth limits and impedance dependence of traditional valve output transformers. Operating without global negative feedback means the amplifier's behaviour depends on the linearity of its stages rather than on correction. The dual-mono layout gives each channel its own circuit and power supply. The FloatO feet add further vibration control. The removable side panels let owners change the look to suit a room. The Tune Two preamplifier in the same line includes a streamer, DAC, MM/MC phono stage and headphone output, and hARt Lab's Superior line adds the Tune Four preamplifier and Tune Five monoblocks. The upcoming Tune Six integrated completes the range. Unlike most amplifiers at this price, which use heavy metal chassis, the Tune Three uses fibreboard panels designed to be rigid in some directions and flexible in others, which hARt Lab says damps vibration and mechanical feedback, lowering the noise floor and crosstalk. At Munich the Tune Two was listed at EUR 19,000 and the Tune Five at EUR 32,000 each, which places the Tune Three between them.
Pairing
The Tune Three pairs with hARt Lab's Tune Two preamplifier. At Munich it was demonstrated with Estelon Aura loudspeakers.
Alternatives
hARt Lab's Tune Five is the brand's hybrid monoblock amplifier of the Superior line.
