The Statement P5 is Anthem's five-channel amplifier, built in Canada with a multi-mono layout in which every channel works as a separate monoblock module. Each module carries its own toroidal transformer, its own heat sink and fourteen bipolar output devices, and the whole unit weighs 59 kg. The US list price at launch was USD 4,999.

Key specs that matter

Anthem rates the P5 at 325 W RMS per channel into 8 ohm, 500 W into 4 ohm and 675 W into 2 ohm. The quoted bandwidth runs from 5 Hz to 150 kHz at +0 and -3 dB, with THD of 0.008 percent and IMD of 0.00019 percent, while S/N reaches 125 dB. Input impedance is 18 kOhm on RCA and 22 kOhm on XLR, and an input of 1 Vrms produces 28.3 Vrms at the output, which equals 100 W into 8 ohm. Slew rate is 40 V per microsecond. The damping factor is above 600 at 20 Hz and 400 at 1 kHz, referenced to 8 ohm. The chassis measures 489 mm high, 239 mm wide and 572 mm deep.

Engineering and use context

Every transformer has two independent secondary windings that feed two autonomous supplies per channel, so full output does not depend on how many channels are driven. At the input, four transistor pairs provide complementary feedback correction, followed by cascode pairs working into active loads, and the driver stage has a regulated supply. The output stage uses seven push-pull pairs in parallel, connected directly to the capacitor bank. Instead of rail fuses Anthem fits self-resetting PTC thermistors, and an Advanced Load Monitoring circuit watches temperature, current and voltage. An anti-saturation tracking supply is meant to recover cleanly from clipping. Cooling is entirely passive, with more than 7,250 cm2 of serrated heat sink per channel and a thermal sensor on each. The boards are military-spec FR-4 with 2-ounce copper traces, the chassis is 12-AWG steel under a brushed aluminium cover, and five circuit breakers sit on the AC side next to two IEC sockets. A rackmount version was offered.

Pairing

A rear switch selects RCA, XLR or attenuated XLR per channel, the last lowering gain by 6 dB for preamps with high output. The amplifier can be switched on by hand, by a 5 or 12 V trigger or by detecting an input signal, and a soft start keeps breakers from tripping. Oversize gold-plated binding posts with clear covers take the speaker cables.
