The Triton Evo PA is a fully balanced two-channel tube power stage made in Austria by Ayon Audio, part of the EVO stereo amplifier line. It uses eight KT150 or KT170 output tubes with a triode or pentode mode chosen by the owner. The maker says the design is all new, with reworked boards for operation and protection, redesigned gain and driver stages and a reworked ground system.
Key specs that matter
Rated power is 2 x 130 W in pentode mode and 2 x 75 W in triode mode, into 4 or 8 ohm. Frequency response is 10 Hz to 60 kHz and bandwidth extends from 8 Hz to 70 kHz. Full power is reached with 650 mV at the input, and input impedance at 1 kHz is 100 kOhm. Negative feedback is 0 dB. The amplifier has one RCA and one XLR input and comes with remote control. It measures 51 x 42 x 25 cm as width, depth and height, for a weight of 45 kg.
Engineering and use context
According to Ayon, a new coil method in the output transformer lets the amplifier work more stably at low frequencies. The signal path is kept short and avoids solid-state devices as well as followers and buffers, and discrete wiring is minimal. Bias adjustment is either automatic or manual, with readout on an analogue meter. A pair of separate quiet, insulated mains transformers use damped cases with RFI and EMI shielding. Dual chokes filter the supply to the power tubes, a further choke serves the input and driver stages, and every stage runs from its own isolated supply. The heater supply is regulated DC that ramps up gently, and an AC line filter, high-capacitance storage and in-rush limiting are included. A logically sequenced start that finishes in 1 minute extends tube life, while protection circuitry guards the output valves. Relays located near the RCA jacks do the input switching. A single star earth and a switchable twin-ground layout are provided. Parts include bespoke tube holders with beryllium-copper pins, Neutrik XLR sockets, copper matrix internal signal cable and gold-plated industrial-grade circuit boards. Its hand-built chassis is non-magnetic brushed and anodised aluminium with ventilation, with engraved front legends, resonance-absorbing feet and a backlit logo, finished in black or chrome.
Pairing
Any preamp with single-ended or balanced outputs can drive it, and Ayon names tougher speaker loads among its intended uses.
Alternatives
