Built by Amplifier Technologies Inc., or ATI, the AT6012 is a 12-channel, six-zone distribution amplifier meant for multi-room installations rather than a two-channel stereo component. It is assembled from six two-channel modules, and ATI builds critical parts such as the toroidal transformers and circuit boards in its own factory.

Engineering and use context

ATI calls the construction DMC, short for Detachable Modular Component, so each two-channel block can be removed on its own. Every zone has a motorised gain control, and its volume can be adjusted remotely over a dry three-wire link through Phoenix connectors, which lets control systems from Crestron, Xantech or Phast set levels room by room. An isolated optical protection circuit guards the output stages. This arrangement suits whole-house audio where one rack feeds ceiling or in-wall speakers across up to six rooms, each around 20 m2 or more, from a single location.

Pairing

The AT6012 expects line-level feeds from a multi-zone source, streamer matrix or audio distribution switcher, one stereo pair per zone. Because the amplifier is rated for low-impedance loads, pairs of architectural speakers can be driven directly, and the dry-contact volume input ties the amplifier into an existing automation system that already runs lighting or video in the same rooms. ATI groups it with its other multi-zone models, the 13-channel AT3313 and the 16-channel AT7016, which cover larger houses with more rooms or more speakers per zone. The modular layout also means a fault in one zone can be addressed by pulling a single two-channel block while the remaining zones stay in place.
