The 9000P is the stereo power amplifier of Audiolab's 9000 Series, announced in November 2024 alongside the 9000Q preamplifier and on sale from December of that year in silver or black. The UK list price was GBP 1,099, or GBP 2,499 as a package with the 9000Q. It was the first Audiolab pre and power pairing since the 8300XP, launched more than eight years earlier. Design lead Jan Ertner headed the engineering and David McNeill handled industrial design. The casework is the same size as every other 9000 Series component and repeats the etched vertical line, right-aligned power button, LED and logo of the range.
Key specs that matter
Stereo ratings are 2 x 100 W into 8 ohm and 2 x 160 W into 4 ohm at under 1 % THD. Bridged to mono it gives 300 W into 8 ohm and 380 W into 4 ohm. Frequency response is 20 Hz to 20 kHz within 0.3 dB, distortion is below 0.002 % at 1 kHz, and noise sits more than 112 dB below signal with A-weighting. Gain is 29 dB through RCA and 23 dB through XLR, matching input sensitivities of 1 Vrms and 2 Vrms, and input impedance is 10 kohm on both. The chassis measures 444 x 90 x 327 mm and weighs 9.2 kg net.
Engineering and use context
Its Class AB output section uses Audiolab's CFB complementary feedback topology, chosen by the company for linearity and thermal stability - idle current stays constant regardless of the temperature of the output transistors. Each channel has four output transistors, and the circuit is laid out in dual mono with separate supply sections for left and right. A 320 VA toroidal transformer feeds four 15,000 uF reservoir capacitors, 60,000 uF in total, and the amplifier can deliver up to 15 A of output current. Audiolab based the power stage on that of the 9000A integrated amplifier, with a stronger supply and added RFI and EMI filtering plus mains filtering. Standby consumption is under 0.5 W, and versions exist for 100-120 V and 220-240 V mains.
Pairing
Audiolab designed the 9000P as the dedicated partner for the 9000Q preamplifier, and a 12 V trigger input lets the preamp switch it on and off. Sources that have their own volume control, such as the 9000N network streamer, can also feed it directly. Speakers connect through one stereo pair of gold-plated binding posts. The current reserve suits loudspeakers with low impedance dips, and owners who later need more power can add a second 9000P and run the two as bridged monoblocks.
Alternatives
The Audiolab 8300XP is an older stereo power amplifier rated at 140 W per channel and 480 W in bridged mode.
