The Signature Mono is a single-channel power amplifier made by the French firm YBA, which presents it as the latest addition to its Signature range. It is a derivative of the Signature Stereo power amplifier, rebuilt so that one chassis drives one loudspeaker, which means a stereo system needs two units. In the UK a pair has been listed at GBP 32,000, and the amplifier carries a 5-year warranty.
Key specs that matter
YBA rates the output at 200 W into 8 ohm and 400 W into 4 ohm, so the power doubles as the load impedance halves. The frequency response is quoted as 20 Hz to 20 kHz within -0.5 dB, the signal-to-noise ratio exceeds 95 dB, and THD+N stays below 0.1% across that 20 Hz to 20 kHz band. Each unit is 430 mm wide, 390 mm deep and 170 mm tall, with a mass of 42.5 kg. Standby consumption is under 0.5 W, and the casework comes in a natural aluminium finish only.
Engineering and use context
A linear supply provides the power, built around a 1000 VA transformer of the UI-CORE type, a large rating for a single channel. Rather than being folded from sheet metal, the chassis is machined out of one aluminium block, which makes the enclosure rigid and lets YBA form internal walls that isolate circuit sections from one another electromagnetically. Components are fitted on two levels, fixed to both sides of a central structure. The output transistors sit on a solid aluminium block with special mica wafers between them, a method chosen to move heat away faster and limit thermal distortion. YBA uses non-magnetic materials throughout the electronic build, and the transistors are specially selected and matched in pairs so that the two halves of the output stage behave alike.
Pairing
Three inputs are provided - one RCA socket, one balanced XLR input wired for stereo use and one balanced XLR input for mono operation - so the amplifier can take a feed from a single-ended or a balanced preamplifier. A single speaker output accepts either one cable run or a bi-wired connection, which suits loudspeakers with split terminals. The doubling of power into the lower load gives headroom for low-impedance floorstanders, and within the brand the Signature Preamplifier is the matching control unit for a complete Signature chain. Because each chassis weighs so much, two separate shelves or a floor-level platform are needed.
