The Shinri, a single channel valve amplifier from Audio Note (UK), is sold as one chassis per channel so a stereo system uses two units. Each Shinri is a Class A amplifier with a single ended triode output that relies on a single 300B triode output valve. The maker gives priority to sonic performance over technical specification in this design, and the model is offered in three current forms - the standard Shinri, the Shinri Low Gain and the Shinri Balanced.

Maximum output is 8 W RMS into either a 4 or an 8 ohm load, so the same figure applies to both tap choices. Input impedance is 100 kOhm at line level, and it reaches full output from a 250 mV signal. Channel balance within a pair is specified at +/- 0.3 dB. Each chassis holds three valves - one 5R4GY rectifier, one 300B output triode and one 6SN7 - which gives a pair of two 5R4GY, two 300B and two 6SN7 in total. Audio Note (UK) grades its products in levels, and the Shinri meets the Level 4 criteria. That grade demands a directly heated triode output, rectification by valve and no negative feedback, alongside Class A single ended output. Construction is by hand, and the parts list includes custom output transformers wound with both copper and silver, tantalum resistors, copper foil capacitors and silver internal wiring. The Low Gain variant exists for systems where the standard input sensitivity would give more gain than the chain needs, while the Balanced version adds balanced input for sources and preamplifiers with that type of output. Buyers choose a fascia in black acrylic or anodised aluminium plus a top plate finished in plain or black anodised aluminium, so a pair can be matched to other Audio Note (UK) boxes in the same rack. Pairing

With this modest power available, the loudspeakers need to be efficient enough to reach the desired level with that power. A line preamplifier with volume control is required ahead of the pair, and the Balanced version suits a preamplifier with balanced outputs.
