The M-250 Ultra is a fully tubed monoblock power amplifier from Rogue Audio, the company founded in 1996 in Brodheadsville, Pennsylvania, which designs and builds its amplifiers entirely in the USA. The model made its debut at AXPONA 2026 in Schaumburg, Illinois, in April 2026 and succeeds the Apollo Dark as the newest monoblock in the Rogue range. The US list price is USD 18,995 per pair. At the show the pair drove Magnepan 2.7x panels from a Rogue RP-7 v2 preamplifier.
Key specs that matter
Each chassis delivers 250 W in ultralinear mode from six KT88 output tubes, with two 12AU7 and one 12AX7 in the input and driver stages. Total harmonic distortion is under 0.1 percent typical and 1 percent at peak output. Bandwidth runs from 20 Hz to 25 kHz at full output and from 10 Hz to 100 kHz at 10 W. Input sensitivity is 1.0 V RMS, and the rear panel carries both XLR and RCA inputs. Speakers connect to separate 4 ohm and 8 ohm binding posts. One amplifier measures about 31.8 cm wide, 45.7 cm deep and 33 cm high and weighs close to 40 kg. Mains supply can be 115 V or 230 V at 50 or 60 Hz.
Engineering and use context
A switch selects triode or ultralinear operation of the output stage. In ultralinear mode the screen grids of the KT88s are fed from taps on the output transformer, which gives the full rated output, while triode mode trades some of that power for a lower-impedance output stage. Because every chassis carries one channel, the left and right sides have separate supplies and transformers and share nothing but the wall socket. Rogue describes the supply as a massive high-storage linear design, paired with what it calls ultra-high performance transformers. Built-in bias meters with individual bias switches let the owner check and set each output tube without a separate meter, which matters with six power tubes per chassis. The RCA sockets and binding posts are heavy-duty rhodium-plated parts. Every unit is tested, burned in and auditioned before it leaves the factory. Where the Apollo Dark ran KT120 output tubes, the new model returns to the KT88.
Pairing
Given its large power reserve and dedicated low-impedance taps, the M-250 Ultra can drive low-sensitivity planar and dynamic loudspeakers that smaller tube amplifiers struggle with. The balanced inputs suit preamplifiers with XLR outputs, such as the Rogue RP-7 v2.
Alternatives
The Rogue Audio Apollo Dark is the valve monoblock of the brand built around six KT120 output tubes per chassis and weighing about 45 kg each.
