The Hyperion Mono is a Danish monoblock in pure class A, built by Gryphon Audio Designs as the one-channel counterpart of the Hyperion stereo model, shown at High End Vienna 2026 together with the Helios preamplifier and presented as the successor to the Mephisto. Shipping was set for late summer 2026, and the mono pair is priced at USD 160,400.

Key specs that matter

Each chassis delivers 200 W into 8 ohm, 400 W into 4 ohm and 800 W into 2 ohm, so output doubles as the load halves. Bandwidth runs from 0.3 Hz to 330 kHz at minus 3 dB. Output impedance is 0.010 ohm, gain is 31.0 dB and the balanced input presents 10 kOhm through gold-plated Neutrik XLR sockets. Unweighted noise is below minus 80 dBV and A-weighted noise below minus 83 dBV. The enclosure measures 59.4 x 33 x 65.4 cm and weighs 126 kg net per unit. At idle each amplifier draws 206 W, 470 W or 715 W depending on the bias setting, and under 0.5 W in standby.

Engineering and use context

Designer Tom Moller kept the dual mono, zero global negative feedback class A topology of the brand. The input stage uses a new low-noise dual JFET working with a matched dual BJT selected for Gryphon. Forty output transistors per chassis, the same devices as in the Apex, give eighty across a pair. The supply combines two custom 1500 VA toroidal transformers per chassis with a 500,000 microfarad capacitor bank, so a stereo pair holds four transformers and one million microfarads. Compared with the Mephisto, capacitance rises by more than 10 percent, and each channel now has its own transformer casting where the Mephisto shared one. A purpose-developed circuit board brings revised bias control and signal routing. Separate linear supplies feed the digital control and the analogue circuits. Signal and power wiring inside is pure silver, the same specification used in the Apex. DC servo coupling replaces coupling capacitors in the path, and the damping factor is independent of frequency. The owner can choose Low, Mid or High bias or the automatic Green Bias mode, which lowers idle draw.

Pairing

For stereo, a pair of units is fed from a preamplifier that has XLR outputs, such as the Gryphon Helios launched alongside it. The doubling of output as the load halves makes low impedance loudspeakers a practical load.
